Who we are.

Unity House was founded in 2010 by the Executive Director Lamont Sapp.

From the desk of the Executive Director:

From firsthand experience and as a person recovering from alcohol and drug addiction, I understand the value of having a supportive living environment. Having enough money to afford rent may not mean an individual in early recovery should move into a place of their own. This was my experience anyway, not realizing I did not have the support and tools I needed. Often, individuals that have been caught up in the drug and criminal lifestyle, lack the necessary tools to be successful without significant support.

In 2003, I bought a home that would later become transformed into “Unity House”, a sober living house. I was not in this business for an income, as I have continued to work in the treatment field for the past 20 years. Therefore, I brought a group of individuals together to serve on the board of Unity House; we began the process on becoming a non-profit. We received our 501c3 designation from the IRS in 2011.

In 2010, our first year, we served 7 men and have since served over 150 men. Residents of Unity House usually transition from local and out of county or out of state treatment facilities as they return to the Columbus area. Last year, a former Unity House resident came back to serve on our board as a testament to the success of the support that Unity House provides.

Putting People Together. Is What We Do.
